
Russia has launched an invasion of Ukraine. It hit cities and military bases with airstrikes and shelling. Ukraine's government also said Thursday that Russian tanks and troops rolled across the border in a "full-scale war".
It's the Russians' largest scale invasion in more than 40 years when the Soviets rolled into Afghanistan. Early in the invasion, the Ukrainians say the Russians took control of the Chernobyl reactor.

President Biden also announced a tougher new round of sanctions against Russia. He says "Putin chose this war" and Russia will bear the consequences. Those sanctions will hit Russia's banks, its oligarchs, and high-tech businesses and the products that are used to run them.
