DPS investigates attack on a church in Austin

The Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for help to identify the person suspected of trying to set a church on fire in Austin. The incident happened in the early morning hours of August 31st.

Investigators say a man approached the church at 13th Street and Lavaca in downtown Austin and threw a Molotov cocktail against the building. He fled the scene before DPS troopers arrived.

The church is just a few blocks from the state capitol. A surveillance camera did capture some images of the suspect. He was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, black shorts and white shoes. He was also carrying a black backpack and had a skateboard.

The DPS is urging anyone with information about the case to call the Texas Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477). There's a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
