Health officials concerned COVID Delta Plus variant spreading in Texas

The COVID situation is getting increasingly worse in North Texas.

Reports say 700 people are now being treated for COVID-19 in North Texas hospitals. Now the concern over the Delta Plus variant is worrying health officials even more.

Several cases of the Delta Plus variant have been confirmed in the greater Houston area and officials say it’s likely headed to North Texas.

Dr. John Carlo with the state’s COVID-19 task force says the new Plus variant is like the Delta variant, but it’s more infectious and it spreads even quicker.

Carlo says the best thing people can do right now to slow the spread is to get vaccinated.

Dr. Carlo says with the variants, and the spike in COVID-19 cases there is a risk that some restrictions, like mask mandates, could come back.

While vaccines do provide protection against Delta Plus, Dr. Carlo says that may not be the case with future variants.
