Lawsuit against Houston hospital's vaccine requirement dismissed

Houston (1080 KRLD) - A Houston hospital will be allowed to fire employees who don't get a COVID-19 vaccination.

A federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit brought by employees of Houston Methodist Hospital who don't want to get the vaccine. District Judge Lynn Hughes called the lawsuit frivolous.

The hospital has suspended 178 employees last week and they could be fired.

The judge wrote that the public's interest in having a hospital capable of caring for patients during a pandemic outweighs protecting the vaccination preferences of employees, adding the plaintiffs are jeopardizing the health of doctors, nurses, patients and support staff at the hospital.

The company says nearly 25-thousand employees of the Houston Methodist system have been fully vaccinated.
