A Corpus Christi Jury awards the family of two victims of a drunk driver a record $301 billion judgment.

Joshua Delbosque was drunk when he left the Beer Belly's sports bar in Corpus Christi in November of 2017. Minutes later, he plowed into 59-year-old Tamra Kay Kindred and her 16-year-old granddaughter, Aujuni Tamay Anderson in an intersection. He was going 91 miles per hour at impact and all three died at the scene.
Attorney John Flood says the jury reached the dollar amount on their own. They were told the family would likely never recover any money. "The family brought this case in hopes to raise awareness to this incredible epidemic of alcohol related deaths, especially right before the holidays. The jury was told a loud message would work best."
He says the hope is bartenders will stop serving people who are drunk. "We are hoping that as the holidays come, there will be bartenders who listen to stories like this and think, you know what? I'm not going to continue to serve this person I know is intoxicated. That's what it's going to take."
Delbosque's blood alcohol level was point 263, over three times the legal limit. Flood says Delbosque consumed at least 11 drinks at the bar. "The receipts show how much he had to drink, and under Texas dram shop law, the bar is liable because we now know they served an already intoxicated person."
Beer Belly's Sports Bar has since gone out of business.
