We're starting off with some clouds and some stars out at this hour. Temperatures are in the seventies and nothing is showing up on radar.

Partly cloudy skies today with highs in the low to mid nineties. Heat index values will approach 100 degrees between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Then, all eyes to our north as a slow moving cold front sags across the Red River Valley late this evening through the overnight and into tomorrow. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move into north Texas before midnight and continued through the early morning hours. Storm severity is very low over the next 72 hours.

NOTE: Cold fronts have a hard time plowing through the area in July, let alone even being in our vicinity this time of the year. This being said, wherever this front slows down and stalls this weekend will determine who gets the most rain. Right now, I think most of us get rain during the day Friday and then chances slowly creep west and south of the Dallas Fort Worth area Saturday and especially on Independence Day Sunday.

Temperatures will definitely be cooler due to the clouds and rain in the area this weekend. High temperatures will be in the low to mid eighties tomorrow, mid eighties on Saturday and upper eighties on Sunday.

Right now, it looks like most of the firework shows in DFW and points north on Saturday and Sunday should be OK, but the weather still needs to be monitored on Saturday.

Next week, this front will back to the north as an upper level disturbance gets trapped in southwest Texas. Depending on where this disturbances is next week, will determine where the most rain falls across the state.

I'm putting scattered showers and storms in our forecast Monday through Thursday of next week, with high temperatures in the upper eighties to near 90゚.
