The thermometer at DFW Airport reached 107 degrees on Tuesday, tying the record-high temperature for Aug. 1 and coming one degree shy of the hottest temperature so far this year, the National Weather Service says.
A temperature of 108 degrees was recorded on July 18, while the record for this date was recorded in 2011.
The triple-digit heat isn't going anywhere, with highs around 107 degrees in the forecast through Sunday, according to KRLD Chief Meteorologist Dan Brounoff.
He said high temperatures will dip into the mid-90s by next week.
The hottest day of the year comes on the heels of a July that saw temperatures well above normal. By the end of last month, North Texas had already experienced 23 days with temperatures above 100 degrees. The normal total for that point in the year is nine, while the record is 44, which was set in 1980.
The average temperature in North Texas from June 1 to July 31 was 86.7 degrees, the 10th-warmest stretch on record.
Editor's Note: The original version of this article reflected the National Weather Service's statement that 107 degrees was the hottest day so far in 2023. It has been corrected to note that DFW Airport recorded a temperature of 108 degrees on July 18.
