PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The NCAA Division III Ursinus College Bears were one of many area football teams to have their 2021 season wiped out as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the Bears are now anxious to get back in action here in 2021.
Back in 2019, Ursinus went 5-5 (4-5 in the Centennial Conference).
This year, the Bears will start Springfield High School alum and junior Jack Psenicska at quarterback. Ursinus head coach Peter Gallagher told KYW Newsradio that Psenicska started a couple of games as a freshman back in 2019.
“He’s a very headsy guy and knows where to go with the ball, and he’s a very accurate passer," Gallagher said. “We’re looking forward to Jack leading us and taking us as far as he can.”
Gallagher breaks down one of the strengths he sees on the Bears roster.
“I think we have some depth on defense,” he said, “but we have some depth in most positions, actually. Our wide receiver group is pretty deep. We’ve got depth on our defensive line, we have some depth at linebacker and our safety position.”
Ursinus will open its 2021 season on Friday, September 3 with a home game against Alvernia.
