1 killed, 3 wounded in July 4 early morning shootings

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Fourth of July weekend was no respite from the city's spate of gun violence. One person was killed and three injured in four separate early Sunday shootings.

The first incident happened just before 2 a.m. in North Philadelphia, at 1800 West Cumberland Street. A 48-year-old man was shot three times, twice in the right ankle and once in the left leg. He was taken to Temple Hospital by a private vehicle where he was placed in stable condition.

The second shooting happened around 3 a.m. in the Hunting Park section, near West Bristol and North Carlisle streets. A 34-year-old man was suffered a graze wound to the head. He was also taken via private vehicle to Temple Hospital, and is in stable condition.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the back around 3:42 a.m. in the Strawberry Mansion area of the city, near 30th and Colona streets. He was taken to Temple Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. No arrests were made in this shooting or the earlier two, and weapons were not initially found.

A man was fatally shot in Southwest Philadelphia on Westbury Drive near Brockton Road. Officers responded to a call at 3:11 a.m. Upon arriving, they found a 21-year-old man shot in the chest. He was taken to Lankenau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 3:30. No arrests have been made, but two firearms were found at the scene.
