PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 12-year-old boy was among three people gunned down in the middle of the afternoon Thursday in East Germantown.
Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said police responded to a report of a shooting around 2 p.m. on East Locust Avenue, not far from La Salle University.
“When they arrived, they found two adult shooting victims and a juvenile. All three of them were quickly transported to Albert Einstein and were shortly thereafter pronounced [dead] while on location,” Vanore said.
He said one of the men was in his 40s, and the other was in his 30s.
Although police are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation, Vanore said at least 12 rifle rounds were found spread across the 700 block of East Locust Avenue.
“We know that the two adult males were hit right at the top of the block, right by Crowson [Street], where they were found by police,” Vanore said.
“It appears the juvenile was able to run towards his residence and was found a short distance away from the adults. There was word — and we're still trying to vet all this information — of a vehicle that possibly left the scene. … And possibly our perpetrators either entered or exited the vehicle when they fired.”
The search for the suspects continues. Vanore said police don’t have a good description of who they are looking for, but they are looking for surveillance video from the surrounding community.
This is the second deadly triple shooting to happen Thursday. Police say the two incidents are unrelated.
Earlier, around 12:30 p.m., a 68-year-old woman was killed and two men were wounded in Philadelpha's Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood. A 40-year-old man is in critical condition, and a 37-year-old man is expected to recover.
“It's a horrific day. It's not a good day. And we're going to work hard to make sure we try to bring these individuals to justice,” Vanore said.
