PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police have arrested a Las Vegas man they say struck and killed a bicyclist in a hit-and-run this past summer.
Thiarles DaSilva, 31, was apprehended Tuesday on the 6500 block of Harbison Avenue, in the northeast, according to police.
Authorities say DaSilva was traveling northbound on Bustleton Avenue near Cottman Avenue on Aug. 22, when he hit 42-year-old Jimmy Doughty, who was headed southbound in a northbound lane.
Doughty was thrown several feet from his bike, which was split in two. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries nearly a month later.
DaSilva has been charged with homicide by vehicle.
