Bicyclist in Northeast Philadelphia hit-and-run last month dies from injuries

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a cyclist who was left in extremely critical condition in a Northeast Philadelphia hit-and-run last month has died from his injuries.

According to police reports, just after midnight on Aug. 22, Jimmy Doughty, 42, and his girlfriend were riding south on the northbound side of Bustleton Avenue when a northbound driver hit them.

The impact of the collision caused Doughty’s bike to split in half. The driver kept going.

Doughty succumbed to his injuries around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators recovered parts from the scene that matched a 2012-to-2019 Range Rover Evoque. They found the vehicle about five blocks away on Faunce Street near Bradford Park, but police have not said if they have taken the driver into custody.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
