NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A Limerick Township teenager, who was under 18 when he gunned down two people in Pottstown over a half-pound of marijuana, will spend at least the next three decades in prison.

Dominic Carboni, now 18, showed little emotion in the courtroom Friday when he pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and robbery.

Carboni will spend 32 ½ to 65 years in state prison for killing 17-year-old Skyler Fox and 18-year-old Brandon BaCote-Byer in Pottstown on Oct. 17, 2022.

Prosecutor Scott Frame called it a “cold-blooded” killing.

“The first set of shots took the life of Brandon BaCote-Byer. And then after Mr. Carboni exited the car, Skylar Fox is running away and he shot him in the back multiple times,” he said.

Frame said Carboni and Deonte Kelly planned the meeting with Fox and BaCote-Byer to buy a half-pound of marijuana. But when Carboni and Kelly pulled up to the meeting at Fourth and Johnson streets, Carboni fired shots into the victim’s car, killing BaCote-Byer. He then shot Fox multiple times in the back.

Carboni took a backpack with the marijuana in it and drove off.

Because he was 17 at the time of the shooting — about a month before his 18th birthday — Frame said Carboni can’t be sentenced to life in prison.

“We were able to work out an agreement to 32 ½ to 65 years,” he said, “which is a significant sentence and would not be considered a de facto life sentence, which is not allowed by the Superior Court.”

Kelly was accused of providing the gun that was used in the shooting. He pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and conspiracy and is sentenced to 25-50 years in prison.
