NJ employers allowed to drop mask mandate for fully vaccinated staff in the workplace

SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — State-mandated COVID-19 rules will soon be eased in New Jersey workplaces, allowing vaccinated office employees to work without masks.

“Employers will be able to allow employees who can verify that they’re vaccinated the ability to forgo wearing a mask and social distancing,” Gov. Phil Murphy said at Wednesday’s coronavirus briefing.

However, state employees will continue to be required to wear masks whether or not they have been vaccinated.

This latest order takes effect on June 4. And, effective Friday, New Jersey will drop its mask mandate for most public indoor settings.

The governor also reversed an order that required employers to accommodate employees who wanted to work remotely.

“While we are rescinding some requirements, that doesn’t mean that we don’t expect you to be flexible and to work with employees, particularly those who are juggling family obligations such as child care,” Murphy said.

He also lifted the capacity limits at child care facilities, effective immediately. Child care classrooms were limited to 15 children. Masks in child care centers, though, are still required.
