PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Gloucester County COVID-19 vaccine megasite is expected to reopen this week, as New Jersey gears up to offer more boosters.
New Jersey is anticipating high demand for the Pfizer booster, days after the CDC approved the third shot for people over 65, those with certain medical conditions and those at a higher risk of exposure.
At a Trenton media briefing, state health commissioner Judy Persichilli said all 21 counties are being urged to open standing vaccination sites.
“We are encouraging every county, we expect every county with support from the Department of Health, to open up a static vaccination site,” Persichilli said.
“In addition to the Gloucester megasite, which will open this week, appointments will be able to scheduled at the end of this week.”
106,542 booster doses have been administered, Persichilli said.
New Jersey is also offering incentives to individuals and businesses to help to get people back to work.
Gov. Phil Murphy told reporters that under the program called “Return and Earn,” businesses with fewer than 100 employees can get up to $10,000 to train new workers. Unemployed people who are hired would get an extra $500.

“We know that there are good jobs out there just waiting to be filled,” Murphy said.
“Our hope is that Return and Earn will make it easier and faster for employers to connect with potential employees and to bring them on board.”
“Cash on the barrel alone is interesting, but it’s even more interesting when you put a workforce development and upskill component to it,” Murphy added.
Money for the $10 million program is coming from the American Rescue Plan, the governor said.
