PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police have charged Kristian Reyes, 36, in the shooting of a Philadelphia cop last week. They say he had a large amount of narcotics on him, including fentanyl.
Authorities said a group of SWAT officers went into an apartment building along Lehigh Avenue near Front Street last Friday, executing a warrant on Reyes for a parole violation.
Philadelphia police said they knocked and announced they were there with a warrant, and eventually got inside his third-floor apartment.
Law enforcement said Reyes shot at them at least 10 times as they tried to get into the apartment.
One of the officers was struck in the chest, protected by his bulletproof vest.
Officials said Reyes jumped out of a third-floor window onto a roof with a gun which he pointed at two more cops outside. They fired at him and missed.
According to authorities, he dropped the gun onto another rooftop nearby as another officer climbed out the window and briefly struggled with Reyes before they arrested him.
Police also said the gun he used was in "stolen status" from Upper Darby.
Reyes has several prior drug convictions from arrests in 2006 and 2007, as well as aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
He has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and several drug and gun charges. Bail has been set at $3.5 million.
