PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man is facing federal charges for allegedly shooting a Philadelphia SWAT officer in February.
SWAT officers executed a warrant on 35-year-old Kristian Reyes in Fairhill on Feb. 11. While attempting to get into his apartment, they heard popping sounds inside.
One of the officers said he felt a stinging in his chest and realized he had been shot, but his bulletproof vest prevented any serious injury.
Investigators found fired cartridge casings, nearly 100 rounds of ammunition and drugs inside the third-floor apartment. They say he had a large number of narcotics on him, including fentanyl.
Reyes is federally charged with illegally possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon and related drug offenses.
If convicted, he faces a maximum possible sentence of life in prison, with a 35-year mandatory minimum sentence.
