PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating an early-morning abduction in the city’s Summerdale neighborhood.

On Friday, just after 2 a.m., a witness reported seeing a man, who police later identified as 48-year-old Wey Um, being taken at gunpoint by two men wearing masks. They forced him into a black Ford Explorer that a third man was driving then sped off East on Godfrey Avenue.

Police say Um, a tavern owner, was walking home from work when it happened.

Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore says they do not know what the motive was.

“Is this a robbery, or is this something else? It’s obvious they were looking for him; they pulled up and took him away."

As of now, Vanore says the abductors have not tried to contact Um's family.

"There's no trace of him,” he said. “There's no phone calls, there's no evidence that he's at a hospital or injured, so we're very concerned for his well-being and we want anyone who knows anything about it to give us a call."

Police say Um was robbed on March 6 but didn't report it. They are looking into whether there is any connection between the two incidents.

The Special Victims Unit is investigating. If you have any information on this incident officials, contact the Special Victims Unit at 215-686-3260 or call 9-1-1.
