NJ health officials make push to get COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to more people

Boost NJ Day: Gloucester County Public Works site open until 3 p.m.; Walmart walk-ins start at 11 a.m.

CLAYTON, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Health officials in New Jersey want everyone who is eligible to get that COVID-19 vaccine booster shot. They are calling today: Boost NJ Day.

This is the one-year anniversary of the first vaccines being administered in New Jersey. And to mark that occasion, the state is encouraging people to go out and get their boosters.

As case numbers and hospitalizations have increased steadily over the past month, Gov. Phil Murphy says getting more shots into more arms is a top priority.

There are walk-in appointments available in every county. The mass vaccination site at the Gloucester County Public Works complex in Clayton is open until 3 p.m.

There are several locations participating in Boost NJ Day in every county. Walmart might be the most convenient for a lot of people, and walk-ins there start at 11.

Different sites have different hours of operation. The best way to get that information is to find one near you on the website: covid19.nj.gov.

Ditty Mae Jankauskas, the Gloucester County director of nursing, says it's OK if you lost your CDC COVID-19 vaccine card.

"We have the state system," she said. "If you received your prior doses in New Jersey, we can look it up, and we can make sure you have that documentation before you leave here today."

She says anyone who got shots out of state won’t be in the system, so they would need to have their card on them.

State health officials say they just want everyone to be safe over the holidays or earlier this week. The state health commissioner said that hospitalizations in New Jersey have gone up 81% over the last two weeks.
