PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Within a three-hour stretch Thursday night, nine people were shot across Philadelphia. Three of the victims died, and three of those injured are kids.
Gun violence spanned different neighborhoods. The first shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. in North Philadelphia. Police say a 15-year-old boy was wounded at 20th and Norris streets. He is still in critical condition.
Minutes later — and less than a mile away — three people were shot at 15th Street and Lehigh Avenue. Police say 18-year-old Nahzeem Wideman was killed, while two others — a 31-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl — were wounded. The two are in stable condition.
After that, there were three separate shootings in Southwest Philadelphia. At 57th Street and Elmwood Avenue, the youngest victim of the night, an 11-year-old boy, was wounded around 9 p.m. A 46-year-old man was also injured, but both are stable.
In separate shootings, police say 53-year-old Todd Reeves, who was in a wheelchair, was shot in the chest and killed near his Cobbs Creek residence just before 10 p.m. In Kingsessing around 8 p.m., 40-year-old David Johnson of Darby was fatally shot in the neck and cheek.
And finally, police say a man was shot on Vandike Street in Frankford and left in critical condition.
Outside of that three-hour period of time, the violence continued. At 2 a.m. Friday, a 46-year-old man was shot twice in Fairhill. He is in critical condition.
So far, no arrests have been made for any of these shootings.
Last weekend, Philadelphia surpassed 400 homicides so far in 2021. This year has had more homicides at this point in the year than ever before in the city’s history.
