PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was stabbed to death and another man was shot in two separate SEPTA stations in Philadelphia. Police said the incidents are not connected.

Police said a man was stabbed twice in the chest at Eighth and Market streets along the SEPTA Market-Frankford Line just before 6 p.m. in Center City.

“The 22-year-old victim got involved in an argument with the perpetrator on the platform,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “We believe the stabbing took place either on those stairs or on the platform on the Market-Frankford Line.”

The victim walked up the steps to Market Street, which is where police found him and took him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities later identified him as Christian Rios of Gloucester City, New Jersey.

Police say the suspect is in his late 30s or early 40s and was last seen getting on the eastbound Market-Frankford Line. No weapons were recovered.

Just 20 minutes earlier in Kensington, police say a 48-year-old man was shot in the back near the Allegheny Market-Frankford Station on Kensington and Allegheny avenues. A SEPTA spokesperson said a confrontation took place.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said that a 33-year-old suspect was found about a block away and has been taken into custody.

“When they stopped that suspect who fit the description of the shooter, they were able to recover a handgun from that suspect,” said Small. Officers on scene also recovered narcotics.
