SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Fire restrictions took effect Wednesday morning across most of South and Central Jersey as the region continues to battle a series of wildfires.

According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, all fires in wooded areas are prohibited unless you’re using propane, gas, natural gas or electricity in a stove that’s not on the ground.

Charcoal fires and agricultural burning are not allowed.

The order affects the following counties: Atlantic, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Salem, Burlington, Monmouth, Ocean, Middlesex (south of the Raritan River), and Mercer (except Hopewell Township).

Cape May County is excluded.

The order is in effect until further notice.
