PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Tuesday is the last day to register for a mail-in ballot in Pennsylvania. Montgomery County officials are focused on making sure ballot drop boxes are safe and secure.

Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence is chair of the County Board of Elections. He says Montgomery County once again has 12 ballot drop boxes.

“These drop boxes are under video surveillance, and this year they are also being staffed in-person by voter education staff,” said Lawrence.

“They're helping voters with the rules, including using both the secrecy envelope and the return envelope when returning their ballot, signing and dating the return envelope, and only returning one ballot.”

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele says they have a team ready to respond to any complaints on Election Day and in the days leading up to it.

“They're going to respond and investigate any reports of illegal activity or harassment of any election officials, or any voters that are trying to get to the boxes or on Election Day,” said Steele.

Steele said drop box observers are allowed, but anyone blocking access to a drop box or trying to intimidate voters will be asked to leave. He said the county has a tip line set up, 610-292-2022, for people to use if they see anyone doing something illegal.

“We're not going to deal with any other sort of shenanigans. We'll investigate any reports of issues. And if there's cause for criminal action, we will take it,” said Steele.

Montgomery County’s drop boxes are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Bucks County has 11 drop boxes, while Chester County has 13. Delaware County has 40 ballot drop boxes, most of them available 24 hours a day.

Philadelphia has 17 ballot drop boxes and 15 mobile mail-in ballot return locations.
