PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are searching for who's responsible for the Saturday morning mass shooting in Philadelphia's Mill Creek neighborhood that left one person dead and eight others injured.

Police found four women and a man shot near North Creighton Street and Wyalusing Avenue after hearing reports of a shooting, just after 1 a.m.

Capt. Anthony Marabella Jr. says North Creighton Street was littered with 38 shell casings, while two bullets hit nearby homes.

The victims were taken to the hospital by police officers, fire rescue and someone’s personal car. The four women were listed in stable condition, but 19-year-old Kevin July, who was shot several times throughout the face and body, died hours later, around 5:40 a.m.

An hour later, two more victims, a man and a woman, arrived at the hospital. One was shot in the leg, while the other was shot in the back. Both were placed in stable condition. Later in the afternoon, two more victims arrived at another hospital. Both were 17-year-old girls who had been shot in the leg.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive, but they believe the incident began as some type of gathering or party that somehow turned violent. There’s no word yet on any suspects, but police urge anyone with information about what happened to call them.
