PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The mother of a 3-year-old boy who was shot in the face in South Philadelphia on Sunday is now facing charges for lying to police.
District Attorney Larry Krasner says the 23-year-old woman, who he did not identify, was not honest with investigators when she explained to them what happened.
Now, he says, she faces a list of charges: “endangering the welfare of a child, also include the charge of conspiracy and a number of other charges that basically relate to criminally misinforming law enforcement, to criminally not telling the truth to law enforcement."
The woman had told police she was walking with her son along Taney Street near Dickinson Street in Grays Ferry around 5 p.m. Sunday when she heard two gunshots, looked down and realized her son had been shot in the face.
She also told police she saw two men dressed in dark clothing running away.
However, investigators say they have evidence indicating the shooting happened inside a home on Taney Street — not outside.
The D.A. did not provide any further details, only saying, "The investigation remains open. It is not over."
