PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman is dead and two little girls were hurt in separate hit-and-run accidents this weekend, and police are looking for suspects in both cases.
LesMarie Velazquez, 26, died at the hospital Sunday morning after, police said, a car struck her early Saturday as she crossed a street near the corner of Whitaker Avenue and East Luzerne Street in Feltonville.
Investigators say it was around 3 a.m. Saturday when a gray- or silver-colored car was turning, hit Velazquez, and took off.
Police say they have not made an arrest, but the suspect could face a charge of homicide by vehicle.
Authorities did not find any car parts on scene, but they expect the vehicle to have some damage on it.
A different hit-and-run collision Friday in West Philadelphia sent two little girls to the hospital.
It happened at about 2 p.m. near 56th and Vine streets in the city's Haddington neighborhood near two day care centers.
Police said a 5-year-old was placed in critical condition, and a 3-year-old is expected to physically recover. A 43-year-old man who was with them is also considered to be in stable condition.
According to investigators, the driver of the vehicle that hit the group took off, then left it unoccupied about a half-mile away. Investigators say the driver is in his 50s. He was wearing tan pants and a white shirt with dark lettering.
Police ask you to call them if you have any information on either case.
