Keep your distance from Philly NYE fireworks crowds with KYW Newsradio's help

KYW Newsradio will carry the soundtrack for the Rivers Casino NYE Fireworks on the Waterfront

Updated: Dec. 31, 1:30 p.m.

Citing rain in the forecast, city officials have cancelled the 6 p.m. fireworks show on New Year's Day, but fireworks are still on for New Year's Eve at 6 p.m. and midnight.

The original story follows:

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Ready to say goodbye to 2021? Of course you are.

Philadelphia is offering several sky shows this weekend to welcome 2022 with a bang.

"We want to help the region ring in the new year, because I think we're all ready to ring out 2021 and are looking for happier and healthier 2022," said Jodie Milkman with the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation.

There will be the traditional 6 p.m. and midnight fireworks shows on Penn's Landing, presented by Rivers Casino, along with a third performance — a new one at 6 p.m. on New Year's Day, sponsored by Visit Philadelphia.

Milkman says a lot of open space will be available at Penns Landing, and there are plenty of ways to watch, safely.

"We're just encouraging people to celebrate inside where they're comfortable, outside with us, there's lots of ways and opportunities to enjoy the fireworks with us this year."

That's where we come in. Drive close to the Delaware River, park your car, and turn on KYW Newsradio. We will broadcast the synchronized musical soundtrack for each performance on crystal-clear 103.9 FM, as if you have a front seat to the show.

If you're planning on staying home, our partners at NBC 10 will air the two 6 p.m. shows on television.
