A man who allegedly shot and killed another man in Southwest Philadelphia over an apparent attempted car theft has been arrested and charged with gun offenses.
Police say Steven Thompson, 54, did not have a license to carry the gun.
Thompson has been accused of shooting a 52-year-old man who was allegedly trying to steal Thompson’s Acura or it’s catalytic converter.
Police said the 52-year-old man drove off in a Honda after being struck with a bullet and crashed into a school bus near 58th Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway.
The 52-year-old man died a short time later.
No one on the bus was hurt.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Tuesday morning in Southwest Philadelphia. Authorities said the alleged shooter may have been protecting his property.
Police said shortly after 8 a.m., a man confronted two suspicious men around his vehicle parked near 58th Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway.
There was a confrontation of some sort and the first man, police said, shot at the other two men and hit one of them while fleeing.
The wounded man, 52, lost control of his car and crashed into a Radnor Township school bus traveling along Cobbs Creek Parkway.
A witness said the other man fled the scene. No one on the bus was hurt.
When word got out about the shooting, many residents in the area went to the scene, including Mary. She said her niece is married to the man who was killed.
"We need to know what really happened, why it happened," Mary said.
Police said a gun was recovered from inside the suspect's car, along with some catalytic converters.
The shooter was cooperating with authorities. No arrests were initially made, and the investigation continues.
