PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Investigators have identified the carjacking suspect who led police on quite the chase throughout North Philadelphia Monday night.

Philadelphia police call Samuel Ferraro, 30, a very dangerous person. They said he was behind the chase that resulted in a carjacking, several vehicles struck, and a foot chase through the city's streets.

Police said he is expected to face several charges, with more possibly coming from the federal level.

"He absolutely fit the bill for the feds, and that's a lot more serious time," said Philadelphia Police Capt. John Ryan.

It all began at about 8 p.m. Monday night when police attempted to pull him over.

"The pursuit went across a number of different districts, and it was good coordination with units on the ground and the helicopter," said Ryan.

Thanks to eyes in the sky and on the ground, police were able to eventually catch Ferraro.

Police said that at one point, he rammed into a woman's Lexus, pulled her out, carjacked the car and took off. He then struck several other vehicles before he finally ran away, but officers were able to arrest him.

"It's a very dangerous person, and it's fortunate that the woman wasn't seriously injured and the police officer wasn't injured," Ryan said.

He added that Ferraro has seven prior arrests, mostly burglaries and thefts.

At this time, Philadelphia and Cherry Hill, New Jersey police officers are working together to see if Ferraro is the same man who carjacked a Kia Sorento at gunpoint from a South Jersey dealership while out on a test drive with a salesman.
