PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The School District of Philadelphia has set deadlines for all middle and high school student-athletes to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to participate in sports this winter and spring.

The district is requiring that students must give proof of full vaccination to their school by December 18 for basketball, bowling, cheerleading, indoor track, swimming, and wrestling. That means receiving their first dose by November 13, and their second dose by December 4 - a 21-day period between vaccinations.

It is also requiring students in spring sports to be vaccinated by March 1, 2022. That means first dosage by January 25 of that year, and second dosage by February 15.

They say students must be tested twice a week until they offer proof of vaccination by the required dates.

The district said that any student who doesn't provide proof of full vaccination by the deadlines will not be able to play those interscholastic sports until they offer that proof.

Spring sports include badminton, baseball, lacrosse, softball, tennis, outdoor track and field, and volleyball.

The district is offering exemptions for medical or religious reasons, but they must submit an exemption form seven days before their season begins.

The city has given full information and resources about the vaccination requirement here. Click here for details.
