PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Proud Boys President Zach Rehl will remain in federal custody for at least another two-and-a-half weeks.

On March 26, a federal judge in Philadelphia granted Rehl’s release pending trial on charges stemming from the U.S. Capitol violence on Jan. 6. However, that release still has to be approved by a federal magistrate in Washington, D.C.

Rehl was arraigned Wednesday, and a detention hearing is set for May 4.

Federal prosecutors have argued Rehl should stay behind bars because they claim he was an organizer and leader of the invasion of the Capitol.

Rehl’s lawyer argues other than a couple of DUIs and some misdemeanors, Rehl has never been in serious trouble. He served in the military and has a family, including a wife who is expecting their first child.

His lawyer said Rehl pleaded not guilty to charges that include conspiracy and obstruction of official proceedings. He’s one of four men from across the country who prosecutors say planned and organized the efforts to stop the final tally of election results.
