PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police said Friday their homicide unit is trying to identify the four men in the video above, as they investigate the killing of a 28-year-old man from New York during a confrontation early Thursday morning at Pat's King of Steaks in South Philly.
Police said that Issedro Cortez was killed when a group of four men attacked him, his 64-year-old father and another 28-year-old man at about 2 a.m. Thursday outside the restaurant on the 1300 block of East Passyunk Avenue. The other two men were hospitalized and suffered what police described as serious injuries.
Each of the suspects were wearing jerseys for Club America, the club from Mexico that had played against the Philadelphia Union hours beforehand in Chester as part of the CONCACAF Champions League.
According to investigators, the four men got into an argument with Cortez, his father and another person from New York who was with them. The suspects then allegedly assaulted the three men.
Cortez was struck with a metal trash can lid, as well as punched and kicked, according to authorities. Police arrived and found him unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the suspects left the area in a pair of vehicles. One of them is said to be a small gray four-door which may be a Ford vehicle. It reportedly has right rear quarter panel damage. The other vehicle is said to be a light-colored Ford Explorer SUV.
This was the second homicide at that restaurant within the last two months.
Police said that if you see the suspects, do not approach them, but immediately call 911.
