ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (KYW Newsradio) — Atlantic County’s prosecutor said Tuesday Rex Heuermann, the alleged serial killer charged in New York’s Gilgo Beach murders, is not a suspect in the 2006 murders in Egg Harbor Township — despite similarities.
This ruling came on the same day Heuermann faced a judge for the first time since his arraignment.
When Heuermann was arrested last month for the murders of three women – Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello, and Megan Waterman – along Gilgo Beach in 2010, investigators from Atlantic County met with Suffolk County detectives and went through the evidence.
Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds said in a statement they “compared timelines, dates, methodologies, etc.” of both cases and found no link between the deaths, even though all the women who died were escorts or involved in prostitution.
Authorities say they now do not believe Heurmann is responsible for the deaths of Kim Raffo, Tracy Ann Roberts, Molly Jean Ditts and Barbara Breidor.
All four women were found dead in a marshy ditch behind the Golden Key motel along the Black Horse Pike near Atlantic City in July 2006.
Heuermann has been charged with the murders of Barthelemy, Costello and Waterman, all of whom disappeared over a 14-month span prior to the discovery of their bodies.
The investigation into the four women killed in Egg Harbor is still active and on-going. Authorities urge anyone who may know something to submit a tip.
Heuermann is due back in court on Sept. 27, according to AP News.
