State Rep. Brian Sims announces run for lieutenant governor

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Sims announced he is running for lieutenant governor.

In a video posted on social media, the Democrat said he has learned a lot since he was elected in 2012.

“My time in the Pennsylvania Legislature has taught me a lot about not only how Pennsylvania government works, but a lot about how it doesn’t. It’s taught me a lot about how to work with people who don’t always agree with me. I think it’s time for me to take what I’ve learned in the House and to be able to bring that leadership to the direct service of the governor.”

He adds he wants to bring “bold, visionary leadership … to the commonwealth.”

Incumbent John Fetterman is gunning for Pat Toomey’s U.S. Senate seat. Toomey said he is not running for re-election.

Sims, an LGBTQ activist who represents part of Philadelphia, has been a state representative since 2012.

The lieutenant governor race gets underway next year.
