PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A brighter spotlight has been shone on institutional racism in Philadelphia, as people from all walks of life work side-by-side to stamp it out. The Ending Racism Partnership in Philadelphia has been tasked with creating the blueprint.

The partnership is a coalition of community leaders, as well as private and public executives. The organization has a straightforward mission.

"We're really focused on centering racism [currently happening] in Philadelphians' lived experiences, and then creating accountability and responsibility to undo racism," said Arun Prabhakaran with the Urban Affairs Coalition.

He said that a virtual panel discussion on Wednesday will review a regional sentiment survey that engaged more than 3,000 people about where they believed racism had the greatest impact.

"They provided first-hand accounts of their perceptions and experiences of racism and how it has impacted their lives," Prabhakaran said.

The survey showed people believe racism is most prevalent in the criminal justice system, education system and in housing, according to Prabhakaran. The discussion will give them a chance to address these issues "provide us real key opportunities to make impact quickly," Prabhakaran said.

"Other [issues] will take a great deal of work to make sure that we advance in our community, and it will take sustained effort."

People interested in participating can register online for the virtual panel discussion.
