PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new Phillies season means new food on the menu at the ballpark. That includes a sandwich named after one of the most popular figures in the team’s history.
If you go to Section 109 at Citizens Bank Park this season you’ll find Uncle Charlie’s Steaks.
Who is Uncle Charlie? For Phillies fans, it can only be one guy.
“Yeah, they’re naming a steak sandwich after me. I want it to sell. I want to push it. If you like Charlie Manuel come get a steak sandwich. No, really. I tasted it, it’s good,” said World Series-winning Manager Charlie Manuel.
“It’s an honor for me, really. I appreciate that.”

Ballpark Executive Chef Vonnie Negron says a lot of thought went into getting the different options right.
“A lot of research on the roll, the beef itself, ribeye. The cut of onions is important, whether that’s julienne, what size diced. We worked on a couple of cheese sauces – developed a Cooper sharp American cheese sauce as one of the toppings.”
And as Charlie said, he wants to sell it. He’ll be making appearances at the cheesesteak spot throughout the season.
