PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are continuing to warn the public about the group of armed robbers terrorizing people across Center City.
Video of one brazen attack is circulating on social media. It happened at 18th and Cuthbert streets, just outside the Comcast Technology Center building. The five victims were leaving the Four Seasons, according to the video, around 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 7.
Three men dressed in black approach a family and began pulling items out of their pockets, including watches and wallets, before taking off in a silver Honda Accord. People are seen passing by as the robbery takes place.
Tuesday morning at the Central Philadelphia Development Corporation forum at the Union League, Deputy Commissioner Joel Dales addressed the string of attacks.
“This situation with this robbery pattern that we see in Center City, this could lead to a shooting,” he said. “These guys are violent, they have guns, and we consider them extremely dangerous.”
Authorities are urging people to be very cautious of their surroundings. Don’t look down at your phone, and look before you get out of your car.
“If you notice a vehicle circulating the block several times, make note of the vehicle, the vehicle’s information,” Dales advised. “If you can get a tag number — without jeopardizing your safety — get the tag number and report it to police immediately.”
Police are now searching for two cars: a 2017 black Honda and a 2019 gray Mitsubishi Elantra.
