Jerry Jones is all but saying for certain that Dak Prescott will play Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback hasn’t played since fracturing his thumb in Week 1, but has been trending in the right direction for a while. He said Sunday that he plans to be back for this week’s game against the Detroit Lions, and the expectation is he'll be medically cleared before Wednesday's practice.
Although Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was hesitant to confirm that, owner Jerry Jones was much clearer in his weekly appearance Tuesday on “Shan and RJ.”
“Let’s just say this: He’s determined to (play Sunday),” Jones said. “From my perspective, from what I can know and see, I think he’s gonna get there. We feel like physically he’s at a position where the risk-reward justifies him being out there in terms of recurrence of any the injury. Set that one off to the side, we don’t have that to think about.
So, it's a question of him getting ready. He’s going to be given every opportunity this week to get ready to go play. … He looks good. He looks ready to go.”
Jones said that Prescott had a “very impressive” throwing session prior to the loss against the Eagles, which was Cooper Rush’s fifth straight start in Prescott’s place. The owner also added that he doesn’t believe there will be any limitations when Prescott does end up taking the offense back over.
This week of practice ultimately will go a long way in determining if Prescott is ready for Sunday. At this point, it feels more likely than not he will be.
