On Tuesday, Britney Spears took to Instagram to share video of herself dancing to “Crazy” by Aerosmith, alongside a few thoughts about her harshly judged life, and how dancing to Steven Tyler brings her sanity and clarity. Also in the post's lengthy caption, the singer revealed that while she has not seen Hulu’s The New York Times Presents documentary episode “Framing Britney Spears,” in its entirety, she was "embarrassed" by the few clips she did see, leading her to tears.

“My life has always been very speculated… watched… and judged really my whole life!!! For my sanity I need to dance to @iamstevent every night of my life to feel wild and human and alive,” Britney began. “I have been exposed my whole life performing in front of people!!! It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I’ve always been so judged… insulted… and embarrassed by the media… and I still am till this day!!!! As the world keeps on turning and life goes on we still remain so fragile and sensitive as people!!
She then went on to address the doc, “I didn’t watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in… I cried for two weeks and well…. I still cry sometimes,” Spears wrote. “I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy… love… and happiness!!!! Every day dancing brings me joy!!! I’m not here to be perfect … perfect is boring … I’m here to pass on kindness!!!!”
Released in February, “Framing Britney Spears” was inspired by the #FreeBritney movement protesting the pop star's ongoing conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears, who controls her estate. Additionally, the documentary fueled a global conversation about the treatment of female celebrities by the media throughout the '90s and early '00s.
Other than her feelings towards the documentary, Britney’s words were otherwise positive and encouraging. However, some remain skeptical on whether the words are her own, or being written on her behalf.
Fans, both verified and not flooded the comments section with a mix of both words of support and concern. Choreographer, Brian Friedman wrote, “Love you and these words. Keep doing you. Keep pushing forward ❤️.” While Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause said, “Instead of dancing, can we get a video of you typing your own captions next time? I want to believe you it’s you speaking for yourself, but I am skeptical 😩We love you!💕”
Other fan comments included, ”I wanna actually hear her say this.... they always makin up captions for her..🧐,” and “I watched the documentary and not for one second did I judge you. It’s the media/paparazzi that should be ashamed of themselves.”
