Astros beat Mets 3-1 on Opening Day

It wasn't pretty in the ninth inning but the Astros pulled away with a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets on Opening Day.

The Astros led by three runs after the third inning, thanks to a Jake Meyers grounder into a force out for a fielders choice in the second inning; an RBI single by Yainer Diaz and an error that helped score Christian Walker in the third.

Framber Valdez, making his fourth straight Opening Day start for the Astros, gave up four hits, walked two, hit a bitter and struck out four. He threw 90 pitches in in seven scoreless innings.

Bryan Abreu took over in the eighth inning and worked through a few walks. Josh Hader also had to strike out Juan Soto, who represented the go-ahead run in the ninth.
