Rockets to sign Jabari Smith Jr. to five-year, $122 million extension

It appears Jabari Smith Jr. will be with the Houston Rockets for the long haul.

Smith and the Rockets are in agreement on a five-year, $122 million rookie extension, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Sunday.

The 22-year-old Smith is coming off a season averaging 12.2 points and 7 rebounds per game. He lost his spot in the starting lineup after suffering a broken left hand in January, opening the door for Amen Thompson to permanently be in the starting five.

But Smith shined as a key figure off the bench for Houston. In the playoffs, he shot 45.5 percent from 3-point range.

Seth Payne and Shaun Bijani (in for Sean Pendergast) discuss the Rockets' latest move here.
