Texans cruise to 41-21 victory over Patriots

For the first time in franchise history, the Texans are winners on the road against the New England Patriots. And this one was barely competitive.

The Texans defeated the Patriots on Sunday, 41-21. Houston controlled most of the first half, but led only 14-7 at the break. They dominated the second half, outscoring the rookie quarterback-led Patriots 27-14.

Running backs Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce both returned from injury to score touchdowns for Houston. Mixon had 102 yards on 13 carries, while Pierce pitched in 76 yards on eight carries, including a 54-yard touchdown run. Mixon also had a 59-yard run of his own.

Both receivers Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell stepped up in the absence of top pass catcher Nico Collins, who is out with a hamstring injury. Diggs and Dell had a touchdown apiece for Houston.

The defense continues to make huge plays for the Texans. Rookie safety Calen Bullock had an interception and a fumble recovery. Safety Eric Murray also had an impressive interception and Mario Edwards also recovered a fumble.

The Texans improve to 5-1 with the win, holding a two game lead in the AFC South over the Indianapolis Colts (3-3). Houston visits the Green Bay Packers (4-2) next week.
