HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) - The Houston Texans have interviewed director of player personnel Matt Bazirgan for their general manager opening, the team announced on social media Tuesday.

Bazirgan becomes the second known person to interview for the position, joining ESPN's Louis Riddick, who reportedly met with Texans brass last week.

According to his bio on the team's website, Bazirgan joined the Texans in May of 2018 after a 14-year stint in the New York Jets front office. While with the Jets, he served as the director of college scouting in 2017 and the director of pro personnel in 2015 and 2016.

Over the last two years, Bazirgan, a Bates College graduate, helped construct Texans teams that won the AFC South in consecutive seasons and defeated the Buffalo Bills in the 2019 AFC Wild Card Round to advance to the Divisional Round for the fourth time in team history.

The Texans have been without a general manager since firing Bill O'Brien, who doubled up as the head coach, in October.

O'Brien became the general manager after the Texans fired Brian Gaine in June 2019, who held the post for just over a year.
