The Texans are addressing their run game needs with the addition of running back David Montgomery.
Just a few hours after trading offensive lineman Tytus Howard to the Cleveland Browns for a fifth-round pick, the Texans agreed to acquire Montgomery from the Detroit Lions, according to NFL Network.
Montgomery joins Houston in exchange for a fourth-round pick, seventh-round pick and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs, who the Texans drafted in the second round in 2023.
Last season, Houston ranked 24th in rushing offense, while its offensive line was the worst in run block win rate. The Texans likely have their new starting running back in Montgomery, who paired with Jahmyr Gibbs to make one of the most dynamic backfields in football.
But they will still need to address the offensive line, which now needs four new starters with Howard traded to Cleveland.
