(SportsRadio 610) -- The Texans are expected to add Lovie Smith as their defensive coordinator and Pep Hamilton as quarterbacks coach, according to multiple media reports.
Smith, a former head coach for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spent the past five seasons coaching the University of Illinois. Smith interviewed for the Texans' head coaching vacancy after the 2013 season, when Gary Kubiak was fired and Bill O'Brien was ultimately awarded the job.
Now, Smith takes over a defense that was among the worst in the league.
Hamilton was most recently the quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, where he worked with rookie standout Justin Herbert. He was a head coach for the XFL's DC Defenders before the pandemic ended their season last year.
Most notably, Hamilton was the Indianapolis Colts' offensive coordinator from 2013 to 2015 with Andrew Luck.

The Texans are keeping offensive coordinator Tim Kelly under new head coach David Culley's staff. They are also expected to keep tight ends coach Will Lawing, who joined the staff with O'Brien in 2014.
All coaching moves, however, are clouded by Deshaun Watson's trade request. The outlook of the team depends largely on what happens with Watson.
