Why C.J. Stroud didn't throw at Texans OTAs

One of the noteworthy moments from the first day of Texans OTAs was observing quarterback C.J. Stroud as a limited participant.

Stroud, going into this third season, was present and played an active role at Wednesday's practice. But he did not throw during team drills, instead with backups Davis Mills and Kedon Slovis handling those duties.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans said after the practice that it's nothing to be concerned about, just some players are being managed differently and individually.

“For all the guys you see here, there will be guys on different schedules, different routine, so you’ll see some guys out and some guys won’t be out," Ryans said. "Some guys will be, some guys will be on different snap count, different pitch count, so there is nothing going on right now with any of our guys. Everyone is just on their own schedule."

Not to be an alarmist, but not a ton of attention is paid to the hand, shoulder and knee injuries Stroud has dealt with over last couple of seasons. Even if there's not major need for concern, it does highlight the urgency and importance of fixing an offensive line that contributed to Stroud being one of the most frequently hit quarterbacks in football.

Seth Payne and Brandon Scott (in for Sean Pendergast) discuss what it means for Stroud to be limited when the Texans are remaking so much of their offense.
