Children’s Museum of Atlanta Celebrates Earth Month with Out of this World Activities in April

Spring has sprung, and Children’s Museum of Atlanta welcomes its arrival with engaging activities throughout April. Kids will grow gardens, match compost, recycle trash and more! Celebrations are planned for Easter and Eid al-Fitr for all museum attendees. In addition, the Museum continues to welcome guests to its brand-new feature exhibit – Splash and Bubbles: Dive In, Lend a Fin! – based on the popular PBS KIDS TV show, “Splash and Bubbles.”

Earth Month: Through April 27

Little ones can enjoy fun-filled programs and activities centered around Mother Earth all month long. Families will learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle at the CMA Stage during storytime, featuring “10 Things I Can Do to Help My World” by Melanie Walsh. At the Science Bar, recycling is made fun through a compost, recycle and trash matching game! Kiddos will get to explore the plant life cycle as they make their own seed paper. Recognizing the world around them, guests will also be able to honor their culture and community in the Art Studio’s activity, My Place on Earth.

Science Bar
Children will learn about recycling through a compost, recycle and trash matching game. Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Innovation Station
For Earth Month, kiddos will get to make seed paper as they explore the plant life cycle! Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Art Studio
Celebrating the world around them, children will design beautiful books highlighting the city and country they are from. Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Celebrate Easter: Saturday, April 8

Let the Easter celebrations commence! Kids and families will learn the Bunny Hop. Additional activities include little artists making Bunny Ears crafts in the Art Studio. During Storytime, the book “Good News, It’s Easter!” will help children understand the hope of new beginnings in this Easter season story.

Art Studio
Guests will be able to join in on the hoppy Easter festivities by making their own bunny ears! Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Celebrate Eid: Saturday, April 22

Families are invited to join the Museum to celebrate Eid al-Fitr which commemorates the end of the fasting of Ramadan. Children will enjoy a reading of “It’s Ramadan, Curious George” by H.A. Rey and Hena Khan before they play an exciting game of find-the-moon scavenger hunt. During the event, kids can learn about direction and magnetism while making DIY compasses.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month: April 28-30

Guests will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by highlighting the work of scientists Isabella Aiona Abbott, Jean Shin and Fazlur Rahman Khan. Creating beautiful collages in the Art Studio and chlorophyll designs at the Science Bar, children will be able to explore more about Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage. The Skyscraper Challenge at the Innovation Station, ideal for children ages 1 to 5, will sharpen kiddos’ coordination skills and imagination.

Science Bar
Children will learn about Hawaiian ethnobotanist Isabella Aiona Abbott while making chlorophyll designs and watching colorful transpiration. Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Innovation Station
Inspired by Bangladeshi-American engineer Fazlur Rahman Khan, this Skyscraper Challenge activity will promote preschool and kindergarten readiness. Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m.

Sensory Friendly Sessions: Sunday, April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30

Families with children on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing disorders are encouraged to join the Museum’s 2023 Sensory Friendly Sessions! Every Sunday during Session A, kids can enjoy a playful, hands-on experience with a sensory modified setting, limited admission and sound and lighting adjustments to ensure safety and comfort. Stage programming will not be available during Sensory Friendly Sessions. Session A: 9:45 a.m.

Ending in April: Through April 30, 2023

Splash and Bubbles: Dive In, Lend a Fin! is an interactive exhibit based on the popular kid’s animated series Splash and Bubbles, which is co-produced by the Jim Henson Company and Hershend Entertainment Studios and airs on PBS KIDS, encourages children to explore ocean science and marine biology. In this exhibit, guests will build connections to the characters and their habitats by immersing them in a larger-than-life marine environment and introducing them to the fun of ocean exploration, all while learning about ocean preservation and building scientific-inquiry and skills. Children will discover a whole new world as they navigate an under-the-sea maze in a kelp forest, explore a sunken ship, interact with the local puppet characters, and become Reef town Rangers to learn how to protect the ocean.
