AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- An Austin Police officer critically injured in a crash with an 18-wheeler early Wednesday morning died from his injuries on Saturday.
The Austin Police Department confirmed Saturday evening that Senior Officer Lewis "Andy" Traylor died from injuries sustained in the on-duty crash on FM 969 near Decker Lane.
According to APD, Traylor was responding to a "priority one" call for service just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, traveling westbound on FM 969 when the tractor-trailer made a U-turn in front of his vehicle. Traylor and his vehicle were pinned underneath the trailer.
The driver of the trailer involved in the crash was not injured, remained on the scene, and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. It's not clear at this time if any charges will be filed.
Traylor was a nine year veteran of APD. Interim Police Chief Chacon said, "Andy was an incredible officer, husband, father and friend and he will be missed by all of us."
According to Austin Police Association President Ken Casaday, Traylor leaves behind his wife and five children. Prior to his career with APD, Traylor served in the Navy for 10 years.
Traylor's organs will be donated through transplant, leaving "blessings for many people."
Donations to support the Traylor family can be made through Austin Cops For Charities, online at AustinC4C.com.
