AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin residents and members of the law enforcement community turned out Sunday evening for a candelight vigil, hours after officer Jorge Pastore was fatally wounded during a SWAT incident in southwest Austin Saturday morning.
District 6 City Councilwoman Mackenzie Kelly and U.S. Rep Chip Roy (R-Austin) were among local leaders in attendance at the event on the plaza of Austin City Hall, joined by dozens of first responders and Austin residents.
Pastore was one of two APD officers wounded during a SWAT incident Saturday morning; officers were attempting to free hostages being held in a southwest Austin home. Pastore died from his injuries; another officer was said to be in stable condition after undergoing surgery Saturday.
A memorial has also been set up outside APD headquarters at the corner of 7th Street and Interstate 35.
Arrangements for Pastore's memorial services are still pending.
The 100 Club of Central Texas is taking donations for both families impacted by Saturday's incident. You can find more details on their website here.
Austin Cops 4 Charities is also taking donations for the officers' families. Donations are being taken online at AustinC4C.com.
