Maryland Governor Wes Moore joined BMitch and Finlay on Tuesday to make his pitch to the Commanders’ new ownership group.
The governor wants Washington to stay at the site of FedEx Field and keep two NFL teams in the state of Maryland.
“I’m very eager for the conversations we’re gonna be having with the new owners so we can hear their vision for the future of Commanders football in Maryland,” Gov. Moore said. “We think this is gonna be a linchpin for everything we’re trying to do when we’re talking about transformative economic and transportation investments that are gonna take place around the blue line corridor.
“I’m very excited to work in partnership with the new owners…you can really build an economic ecosystem that a winning team will be able to generate economic growth around all the other neighborhoods and platforms in which the stadium exists.”
Gov. Moore says he has a preexisting relationship with Josh Harris and other members of the ownership group set to take over, and is confident that Maryland will have the best pitch for where the Commanders’ home will be, especially when going up against the state of Virginia.
“In the state of Maryland, we have two extraordinary football teams that are not just creating excitement on the field, but are creating a new level of economic growth and a level of economic energy for the communities that surround the field as well,” Gov. Moore said. “I don’t want one, I want both.
“I will put the assets of the state of Maryland against any other state in this country, and particularly our neighbors…but we as an administration need to make sure we’re putting together our best pitch. On a lot of fronts, Maryland is rich in assets but strategy poor. We’ve got to get more coordinated.”
